Steve Jobs Advice

Sometimes it is important to learn to keep your feelings private. It was what Jobs thought he needed to learn. Today a very small incident reminded me of the advice that I learnt somewhere in one of Steve Jobs' biography that it is sometimes important to learn to keep your emotions to yourself. Sometimes the things we said in a very casual way can be taken otherwise. We need to be careful with our words whenever we share our thoughts or voice our opinions. We should be a little careful with social media.

There she got it right, I have to admit.

"The problem with you is that you are trying to learn so many thing altogether at the same day", she said while suggesting I should meditate. She further explained that we see people and begin to admire them and try to be like them. It is good to have role models, but we just tend to see only the end result and forget to see their struggle behind it. You can not improve overnight, it takes time and patience to grow and improve. It takes many small efforts to get a great result I guess...

What to write in the lead?

What exactly would you tell your friend in one or two sentences if you were to describe that event to him -  that's your lead. When I begin to write an article as a news piece the biggest problem I encounter is that, I don't know how to begin. I have read a lot about the "Inverted Pyramid" and the "Lead" but you just don't know how to implement it. And often the result of my struggle is I end up writing nothing at all in the end. But what I learnt in our today's media interaction class seems to be really helpful. Begin with the most important thing and all the secondary things can come later. Remember guys it's important to begin writing first...

Interaction with Mr. Navin Chawla

In Shoolini University, we have Yogananda Guru Series, in which eminent personalities from different fields come and interact with the students.Today we had an interaction with a retired Civil Servant and a former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Mr. Navin Chawla.  He told us about the Election Commission and its functioning in brief. He was a little disappointed to see lesser no. of hands when he asked the audience how many people have the electoral cards and had voted in the past. He has said that he would ask the Election Commission Officer in Shimla to send someone for making our electoral cards. He also asked us to promise that we will definitely vote in the next elections. Then, we moved on to his favourite part the Question Answer session. What was really appreciable about him from the very start was the way he encouraged the audience to ask questions. Talking about corruption in our system, he pointed out what he has so often observed that many young people are highly e

Triple Talaq

Triple Talaq - The practice of Muslim men instantly divorcing their wives without their consent just by uttering the word 'Talaq' thrice has been a subject of debate and controversy for a long time. Many Muslim women have reported instances of being divorced by their husbands over trivial matters. Some of them have received Trip le Talaq through posts, telegraphs, over phone or even through WhatsApp messages. India is a secular country where all religions are respected and treated equal. But it is not just a matter of belief and traditions but the basic rights of Muslim women which needs to be safeguarded by law. As a democracy, we cannot allow the discrimination and exploitation of women. Marriage is described as a sacred bond in Quran. In case of a divorce it should happen with the consent of both the individuals. For many such reasons, Triple Talaq is already banned in many Muslim-majority countries like Saudi-Arabia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is high time that thi

Nirbhaya case

It was an incident that shocked the nation. We couldn't save her but Justice was the least that we wanted for her. Today after 4 years the justice has been served. The 4 convicts of Delhi Gangrape have been sentenced to be hanged till death. It has come as a relief and we hope it sets an example for others. But isn't Justice delayed Justice denied ? Doesn't it also points out the loop holes in our system ? It does suggest that we need to make better laws, something that instills confidence in the hearts of civilians and fear in the minds of criminals. We need to restore the faith of general masses in our judicial system. When so many people came out on the roads to protest, there was a wave of anger and frustration that we saw. We hoped that maybe things will change but what followed was unfortunate. Crimes are just becoming more and more common. Laws have become a joke and the Police and our Judicial System is mocked by these criminals. The question is when will th
